| Pink Floyd marching band? | | It was recently announced that my high school Marching Band will be doing a Pink Floyd show for our next season. I'm not sure whether to be excited or worried. We will most likely be doing a slightly modified version of the show the University of Arizona did in 1997 (look it up on YouTube), and I love that show, I'm just not entirely sure our band can pull it off. We did Aerosmith last year with an amazing response, but Pink Floyd is an entirely different feel. | |
| | UNR's marching band to be cut? | | This is what schools are always coming to. My school, the University of Nevada, Reno, is most likely going to be cutting the marching band come next year. Our wonderful governor decided to make 17% budget cuts on the University. Of course the first thing they think to cut is marching band. Not only will this leave the school without a marching band, but it will render the music education major at are school null. We need at least two years of marching in order to get a degree in music education. Anyways, I'd like to hear your views on education cutting music programs, and what should be done in order to help save bands like UNR's. | |

| | Marching Band... Sport or Not? | | First off, I'm not in band or marching band, but i have a few friends who are. We've had some discussions as to the topic... Is marching band a sport?
I say it is not. Its not really hard work in my opinion. Oooh, walking on a field playing an instrument... Big whoop, i don't think its that hard. Sure you have to memorize stuff, but you have to do that for school, and school isn't a sport. Theres just no real hard work involved. Heck, you're the entertainment for a sport (football) when you preform. Most people are out getting hot dogs or going to the bathroom, not really watching the band anyway. Not to many people even care about them. They're just there.
Thats my two cents... what do you guys think? Is marching band a sport or not?

| Should marching band be considered a physical activity? | | Should marching band be considered a physical activity? Here is what I think.
Band members deserve more athletic credit than they receive.
The school board considers football an athletic sport and gives
physical education credit to football players. Marching
possesses a lot of the same qualities as football, yet band
members do not receive the same amount of recognition for
athletic ability as football players do. Both football and band
increase strength and endurance, and are continuous activities,
therefore, band members should be given physical education
credits in high school for participating in the marching band.
| | | Are you in marching band? | | If so, what school? How many people do you have? How many drum majors? How many percussionists? How many guard members? etc. | |
